i can always tell how hot my apartment is by the state of either my lip gloss or hair product. mushy. dammit, it's technically spring.. while it might not be super warm outside, it sure as hell is in my apartment. enough already, heat! stop suffocating me.
have you subscribed to the daily mislead yet? better get on that... this is an election year baby.

bye bye veteran's stadium! i saw many an army-navy game within your concrete walls in my youth. i also saw a phillies home opener, embarassingly enough a pink floyd concert, and probably some other random stuff. i guess that's just how it goes these days, implode the old, rebuild the new. wish i could have seen the demolition.

news from spain:
after the bombings in madrid last week everybody (myself included) thought it was ETA. when anything tragic and terror-related occurs over here everybody jumps to that same conclusion. however, a couple of days after the attack people started realizing that something didn't quite fit. a train full of civilians isn't ETA's style. they usually go directly for a single individual, usually a politician or police officer who they don't like. when the newspapers started asking questions about Al Qaeda's involvement, the Partido Popular (Aznar and the conservatives belong to the popular party) became real real tense. they kept avoiding the subject in press conferences and claiming the evidence wasn't all there to say for sure. of course, an Al Qaeda attack in spain means this is payback for aznar supporting bush's involvement in iraq. well, Al Qaeda sure picked a helluva moment to retaliate because elections in spain were just around the corner. well, the truth came out that not only was Al Qaeda responsible but that Partido Popular was hiding the facts from the people. so, the elections rolled around and PP got the boot. the socialists are back after an 8 year absence. i suppose it's like choosing the lesser of two evils. that's about it really. up in the northwest, in galicia, some people burned down the PP offices in a small town the day before the elections. i don't know how much overseas press that got. ok, gotta run. hope this was helpful. all the best, kris.

poor philly, they just can't get their act together. they lost their deal to host the real world because of a bunch of non-union crap. read about it here. maybe one of these days that city will get its act together.

ok so what do i really know about what's going on in spain and who did what.... i don't really know at all. but the people of spain just elected a socialist prime minister who promises to remove the spanish forces from the u.s. led war on iraq. having just read this, i wonder what effect this will have on the rest of the world. people do want change, it's clear. but are we only going to fight for peace AFTER we are bullied by terrorists?

the big world news today is the bombings in madrid and all of the speculation about which terrorist group is responsible. it seems pretty clear that it was an act of the ETA, although there is some new (i would say planted) evidence pointing to al queda operatives. i will never understand why the taking of innocent human life is an imaginable way to get one's message across. it's horrifying.
i am listening to someone scratching records and liking it.

my friend marian inspired me to sell of a chunk of my music collection on amazon. between her and her beau, they have made hundreds of dollars. i put about 30 cds online last night and already i have sold 3. it's kind of an interesting walk down memory lane to unload the cds that i haven't listened to in years. first sales include slint spiderland and operation ivy. good riddance! i am kind of excited about all of the mailing and stuff, because i think i am going to be inspired to send some letters to friends with all those trips to the mailbox. paper correspondence is a lost art.

i am writing this at 33,000 feet en route to the empire state from the lone star state. i am finishing up a long and extremely fun weekend in austin, texas. 3 days of sun and fun lay behind me as i head towards snow and slush -- or so i hear. it was great to get out of my normal headspace for a few days and the most perfect weather in the world was also a plus. i went to visit my friends philip and marian: philip, an old friend from the days of san francisco, and marian, a dear friend dating back to freshman year of college. i ate the best mexican food i've eaten in ages (since SF?) and LOTS of it. i also wandered around the city limits seeing and exploring all the uniqueness and excitement that a new city has to offer. in total, i took 210 photos, and i almost wish i took more. it was a great and positive creative experience. one that i plan to create again when i head to the next city that i've never laid eyes on (comin' to you next keslar). those of you heading to austin in the coming week or so for sxsw, have fun -- i heard it's supposed to be a real blast.
i'm still learning how to use my new camera -- which happens to be a canon powershot g5. i love it so much, but got very angry with it when i realized that i must have been shooting with an ISO of 400 since all of my pics from that session were super grainy. not a good look for digital photos. it's all a learning experience, i am still trying to find the right settings for my style. and try, try again i will. click here to see nearly the entire enchilada of photos (well, some of them anyway)
tonight's return to nyc celebratory chinese fortune: Trust your intuition. The universe is guiding your life. i believed it then and i believe it now.
hey nyc, good to see you again. you've been missed.
