is it me or have there been a few more incidents of school shootings in the news during the last few weeks? i just read about another one today that happened near harrisburg, PA. a student shot and killed the principal and then killed himself. in the back of my mind, i can't help but relate it to the way this war could be interpreted by young people. i am troubled that there appears to be a message sent that it's ok to go into a country and completely eradicate its government and kill or capture all of its leaders. i guess it must also be ok to kill your principal since he is probably the tyrant in your own day to day life. but instead we are probably going to blame these sorts of events on the media: movies, videogames, etc. i don't know what the answers are, but why do children have such easy access to guns?

i think there are probably a lot of lazy parents out there who aren't paying attention to their children's activities and our probably too wrapped up in their own neurotic and capitalist existences to notice that their kid is miserable. i'm just waiting for people to actually get the message. i fear for another spree of these horrible and unnecessary shootings.

it's tough to be a kid these days.

TAX DAY
yukkk.. i have successfully dropped off all of my tax related paperwork / envelopes / etc. in the appropriate postal service containers. glad that's over. this year, i got my taxes done twice. first i went to H&R Blockhead where some very nasty lady attempted to do my taxes and overcharge me. i was able to walk out unscathed, without paying a cent for her crappy attitude. of course, she probably sent my SSN# all over the internet. oh well.. the next stop was my friendly neighborhood tax preparer who probably also overcharged me but i got a free pen and my taxes due were significantly less. i'm just happy to know that my taxes are going towards the war effort and not towards health care and employment in our own country. oops!! i detect a hint of sarcasm!

so in my attempt to mail my taxes today, i waited in the typically long april 15th line. i tried to take the easy road out and head for the stamp machine, but i only had a $5 bill and the machine refused to accept it. you can bet i tried a good 20 or 30 times. in. out. in. out. in. out. the man behind me in line had the same brainy idea, except he had singles. his bills were probably crustier and wrinklier than mine, yet the machine ate them up like they were pieces of delicious chocolate. i had to help the guy select his stamps since he seemed to be a bit out of the digital era. in fact, i even had to help him yank the stamps out of the machine. he bought 2 rounds. on the second, i pulled so hard, i actually got the guy an extra stamp. who designs these machines anyway? first, it's selective about whose money it takes, then it engages in a heated battle of tug of war with you. dang.

so one last lovely thing to say about the postal service -- shift gears, please. the postal service is an amazing band that is the collaboration of ben gibbard (of death cab for cutie fame / obsession) and Dntel's jimmy tamborello. they are playing locally this weekend in philly and in nyc. check them out!

sorry stellarpeeps. i've been slacking on updating this thing. ok, let's catch up for a minute -- it's april now, there's some serious snow on the ground here in brooklyn, the days are longer, we are at war, i still need a job. any questions?

i visited a few different parts of pennsylvania this past weekend. i saw things i never saw before and dined at an establishment called HOSS'S. it's a buffet restaurant in central PA. i feel that it's only appropriate to spell it in all capital letters. lots of large people dine there. but it's very homey. the real deal. nyc couldn't even dare try and replicate the vibe that was happening there.

in other news, i saw the last town chorus play last night at maxwell's. i took some photos of the soundcheck. they are playing again this friday the 11th at Barbes in park slope, brooklyn. they are a very unique band to see. check out their website for more information: shows, songs, witty phrases.

my trip out of state prevented me from seeing my dear friend perform improv comedy on friday night. but let's not fret because she will have many shows coming up in the next few months. check here for updates.

nothing much new to say. i ate too many olives with my dinner. the snow makes me feel like time is moving backwards. my yogi tea bag said today: Time is now; now is the time.

i'm just trying to figure out what it all means. i'm ready for the real spring, new growth, life, change, warm breezes, screen doors, bare feet, feeling grass between your toes.

it's time for the snow to melt...
